The Lake Andes/White Swan New Beginnings Group is gearing up to help with the local town celebration, Fish Days, which is scheduled to begin on Friday evening with a community supper and a queen contest and Lill Miss
Fishy contest. On Sat. there are kids games, ATV races, a street dance, and a parade. On Sunday there is a demolition derby, and a fireman’s water fight as well as a carnival on mainstreet and the Alex Knudsen III slowpitch softball tournament at the housing complex on all three days. Come and see us in Lake Andes for Fish Days 2008, June 6, 7, and 8th.

One of our largest projects will be working with the Lake Restoration Group to clean up and restore the southern end of Lake Andes. Last fall the New Beginnings group sponsored two community days for the clean up of the lake. The first weekend members from the Springfield correctional facility helped cut down trees and the community members loaded and hauled them away. On the second weekend several youth from the community helped paint picnic shelters and cleaned up garbage as well as helped load addtional trees and brush that was removed.

Members of the New Beginnings (Horizon’s) group in conjunction with the LA Ambulance Assc. and the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries are teaming up to sponsor a bicycle rodeo for the youth in the White Swan Lake Andes area. The youth will be given helmets as well as having safety reflection tape to put on their bikes. The rodeo will be held on May 31st.
